The Marine Mammal Center, an equal opportunity, non-profit employer, is seeking a Veterinary Intern to join our team. The Marine Mammal Center’s mission is to expand knowledge about marine mammals—their health and that of their ocean environment—and to inspire their global conservation. Our core work is the rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured marine mammals, supported by state-of-the-art animal care and
research facilities, a corps of dedicated volunteers, and an engaged community.

We are seeking a Veterinary Surgeon for our Moon Bear Rescue Centre in
Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. The Veterinary Surgeon will be based
at the rescue centre and will be responsible for providing extensive
veterinary care to Asiatic black bears and brown bears rescued from bile
farms, other resident animals, and local domestic animals. He/ She will
work under the supervision of the Senior Veterinary Surgeon as part of a
team of two vets and three qualified veterinary nurses. It will also
involve working alongside and liaising with the Bear Managers. He/ She
may be required to travel within Asia and participate in outreach
projects and work with local veterinarians.

Az USA Oregon államában először sikerült kimutatni, hogy egy görény H1N1 influenza vírussal fertőződött. Az állat a vírust a már korábban megbetegedett tulajdonosoktól kapta el. Közismert tény, hogy a görények fogékonyak az emberek által terjeszett különböző influenza törzsekre, de ezidáig ez az első ismert eset, amikor görény az új influenza vírussal fertőződött. Egyelőre nincs információ, ami megerősítené, hogy a másik irányú (görényről emberre történő) fertőzés is bekövetkezett volna.

Ezzel szinte egyidőben hírt adtak Dániából arról, hogy egy nyérceket tenyésztő farmon az állatok H3N2 influenzavírussal  fertőződtek. Ez azonban nem első alkalommal történt meg, korábban már előfordultak hasonló megbetegedések nyércek között.

PhD position for veterinarian
